Avodart dosing information

Avodart capsules are used to manage the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men who experience the signs of prostate gland enlargement. The medicine helps increase urinary flow, facilitates the symptoms, reduces them, and mitigates pain and unpleasant feelings.

The discomfort and signs of enlarged prostate get less intense and gradually disappear with the treatment. It was proven that Avodart can make the risk of prostate surgery need lower.

Avodart is sometimes prescribed with another medication – tamsulosin (Flomax). To get the proper instructions of use, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Following the instructions helps to achieve the best treatment outcomes.

The intake of this medicine demands from a patient to consume the amount prescribed without changing the dose or skipping it.

Regular use of Avodart usually during the period of 6 months or more produces the relief from the symptoms of prostate growth.

The medicine should be taken with a full glass of water without regards to meals.

So as to prevent any negative effects of this medication and in order to estimate its work, doctors often suggest certain blood tests to be made by men. One of such blood tests is called prostate specific antigen (PSA) to check for prostate cancer. Do not ignore your doctor’s suggestions and special indications.

Avodart is produced in the dose of 0.5 mg of dutasteride. The gelatin capsules of the medicine are opaque, yellow-colored.

As a monotherapy use:

Avodart 0.5 mg, 1 capsule should be taken once a day.

As an adjunct therapy with Alpha Adrenergic Antagonist:

Avodart 0.5 mg, 1 capsule should be taken once a day, tamsulosin 0.4 mg should be taken once a day.

The capsules are used orally; a patient should swallow a capsule as a whole without opening or chewing it. The opened capsule should not be used as its contents may inflame the mucosa of fauces.

Avodart may be administered with or without food.

In case of taking too much of the drug a person should receive symptomatic and supportive treatment.

Fortunately for all patients with kidney or liver problems, the medicine Avodart can be used for them in the regular dose. No special dose adjustments are demanded.
